Field notes

Seven matches. Four days. A social team working from the other side of the world. Here is how the Seattle Orcas turned a brand-new women's tournament into a steady stream of highlight reels while the games were still being played.

The Seattle Orcas play in Major League Cricket, according to the [Seattle Orcas](https://www.seattleorcas.com/). This summer the club added something new. The [Seattle Orcas Women's T20 Exhibition](https://www.seattleorcas.com/news/seattle-orcas-launch-inaugural-womens-t20-exhibition-for-2026) ran August 20 to 23, 2026 at Fairfield County Park in Monroe, Washington, with the club promising "top domestic talent and international stars" across four days.

Three teams took part: the Bellevue Blazers, the Redmond Raptors and the Washington Waves. They played a double round-robin with the top two meeting in a final, per the [tournament announcement](https://www.seattleorcas.com/news/seattle-orcas-launch-inaugural-womens-t20-exhibition-for-2026). That adds up to seven matches of content, if you can capture it in time.

## The challenge: waiting for the final ball

Before Slipstream, the Orcas' social team had no access to any match content until after a match ended. The stream was live, but the moments inside it were locked up until someone could go back, scrub through the footage and cut clips by hand.

That gap matters more than it sounds. A wicket or a big six is most interesting in the minutes after it happens, while fans are still talking about it. Post it hours later and you are competing with everything else in the feed.

Then there is the volume. Seven matches packed into four days is a lot of footage to sift through by hand. Every boundary, wicket and diving catch is a potential post, and the backlog grows faster than a small team can clear it. By the time one match is cut, the next one has started.

There was a second wrinkle. The social team was working remotely from India, not courtside in Monroe. They needed finished clips delivered to them, not raw footage they would have to process themselves.

## The workflow

Slipstream covered the tournament live. We worked with the Orcas' production team to sync with their live stream, then exported finished clips to a shared Google Drive in real time as each match played out. The short version: you stream, we clip, your team posts.

From live stream to Instagram

1**Live stream** The Orcas' production team streams each match as usual. No new cameras.

2**Slipstream clips in real time** Key moments become finished highlight clips while the match is still going.

3**Shared drive** Clips land in a shared Google Drive, building a ready highlight inventory before the match ends.

4**Social team downloads** The Orcas' social team, working from India, picks the clips they want.

5**Posted to Instagram** Reels go out on @mlcseattleorcas across the match weekend.

The social team was not waiting on anyone to go back and cut clips by hand. The time difference stopped being a problem, too: the clips were already sitting in the folder whenever the team was ready to post.

## The results

Between August 21 and 23, the Orcas posted 21 match-action reels to [@mlcseattleorcas](https://www.instagram.com/mlcseattleorcas/). Together they drew 202K views, an average of roughly 9.6K views per reel. The top performer, a reel titled "Skipper," reached 27.8K views on its own.

For a first-year women's exhibition, that is a lot of attention, and it came from footage that would otherwise have sat in an archive until someone found time to cut it.

The reach also opened a door. According to Pete Schwab, CEO of Stronghold Labs, the visibility led the tournament director to introduce him to organizers about running more events.

Jessica Ivey, Director of Marketing at the Seattle Orcas, described the weekend this way:

"Slipstream helped our social media team publish in match video content for our Women's T20 Exhibition all weekend seamlessly delivering in game highlights to a global audience in real time. They were a great partner working with our production team to sync our live stream, which allowed our YouTube and social accounts to be updated with highlight clips as the game progressed."

## Lessons for organizers

You do not need a pro league budget to run a pro-level highlight operation. A few things made the difference here, and they apply to almost any tournament.

1**Start with the stream you have.** If you are already streaming, you already have the raw material. The work is syncing with your production team before the first match, not adding cameras.

2**Give clips one home.** A single shared folder meant anyone on the social team, anywhere, could grab the same clips without asking for files.

3**Post during, not after.** The value of a highlight drops fast. Having inventory ready mid-match lets your team keep fans engaged across the whole weekend.

4**Treat reach as an asset.** Visible content does more than entertain fans. Here it started conversations about future events.

## Where Slipstream fits

Slipstream works on top of the cameras and streams you already run. It takes live video and turns it into timely, finished, searchable, publishable highlight clips, delivered in under a minute. Behind the scenes, the pipeline runs Ingest, Understand, Segment, Clip, Enrich, Transform, Organize and Publish, so your team gets clips ready to post instead of footage to edit.

For the Orcas, that meant pro-level highlights on a tournament budget. Clips during the game. Fans in the stream.
